Fashion Term of the Day: Downward Flow Theory

Burberry Patent Sleeve Trench Coat $1,695

Downward Flow Theory also called Trickle-Down Theory- The theory of fashion adoption, which maintains that to be identified as a true fashion, a style must first be adopted by people at the top of the social pyramid. The style then gradually wins acceptance at progressively lower social levels.  An example would be Burberry, the brand designs have been adopted by people of a lower social status since it’s plaid beginnings.
